Birth Inspired Necklaces by Moon Over Maize

The Bring Birth Home giveaway for the month of May features three beautiful, handcrafted necklaces by Monica, owner of Moon Over Maize.

I am absolutely delighted to share these birth inspired gems with you! Choose one of the three when you win the May giveaway.

About Monica, aka Moon Over Maize

“My favorite toy is my torch.”

I have always been inspired by colors. When I was young one of my favorite past times was organizing crayons and buttons into different color categories. My work with metal and stones these days still involves a lovely array of colors. Sometimes bold and bright and other times pale and mellow, depending on my mood.

Creating jewelry comes second to raising my two children. My second baby was born at home in July nearly four years ago. I am homeschooling them and love it to no end!

How to enter the giveaway:

1) Go over and “like” Moon Over Maize on Facebook.

2) Leave a comment below telling us which necklace you would choose and why!

Giveaway winner will be announced the morning of Friday,  May 27th

Good luck!

I would choose the Doula one. I’m a doula and it has been an amazing job, I’d love a piece of jewelry that represents what I do!

I love these necklaces, they are beautiful!! :D

  2. Lizzie Elliott says:

I would pick the one that says “homebirth” cause I have had 2 and I am very proud of it!! I was born at home also!!!

  3. Jessica Payne says:

Hello and thank you for this giveaway. I would love the homebirth necklace. It is so beautiful and I am planning to have a homebirth with my next baby. I wish I would have known about homebirth with my other children, but I’m so grateful that my eyes have been opened now.

  4. Julie says:

I would choose the homebirth one. I am 9 weeks away from my due date of my 2nd homebirth.

  5. mykael says:

I’d love either “homebirth” or “doula”! They both apply beautifully and would be worn regularly!

  6. Smrt Mama says:

I like the homebirth one, because I’m not a doula or midwife, but I am a homebirther.

  7. Tia Wood says:

Oh gosh.. it is so hard to pick! I am planning to become a home birth midwife once my children all start school, but home birth means so much to me. I had my first HB with our 3rd child 9 months ago. He passed away just under 3 months ago, but his birth inspired me to become a midwife. I recently matched with a lovely couple and will be a surrogate for them. I am lucky enough to be able to have a home birth when I have their baby. Any future children of my own will also be born at home. Home birth means so much to me. I was lucky enough to give birth to my son in my home, but also had to say goodbye to him in my own home. This house means everything to me. Oh dear.. I have rambled. If I had to pick, I would say the Home Birth necklace. It would get to hang around my neck with the glass pendant that holds my son’s ashes… my son who was born at home.

  8. I would choose the “homebirth” one because I just had my 1st homebirth(2nd child) in April and it was everything I wanted from a birth!

  9. Serena Butler says:

I would choose the homebirth necklace. I am pregnant with my seventh child. This will be my second home birth. It is absolutely beautiful! Home birth, AND your necklace!

  10. Hope says:

I’d chose the homebirth one to celebrate my homebirth and my hb baby, whose birthday is tomorrow! XOXO

  11. Cristie says:

These are awesome! If I won, I’d choose the HOMEBIRTH necklace. I am due in September with my 2nd child/1st homebirth. =)

  12. Erica Lea says:

Wow. Where do you find these amazing Jewelry designers?! They are so incredible!

I would ADORE a Home Birth OR Doula necklace… Because I’ve done both!! What a lovely surprise this would be for me since I have a birthday in June <3 !!

Thank you for all of these lovely giveaways you do… I'm still hoping the universe will let me win one soon!! : )

    Love and Light!

  13. AManda says:

I would choose homebirth. I am pregnant with my 5th due in November. Will be born at home!

  14. I just recently decided to start doing homebirths on my own. I have been studying midwifery for five years now. After being approached by two very experienced beautiful and humble midwives and told I really need to start considering starting my own practice. I was told by their observations, I am ready! Those words meant the world to me! My heart and soul has longed for being a midwife! Monica, I would be honored to wear your beautiful necklface labeled MIDWIFE! As a traditional midwife I am so honored to be called a midwife!

  15. Tiffany says:

Wow. These necklaces are absolutely beautiful. I recognize the passion and care put into these creations because it is the same passion and care I carry with me as a birth professional. What a great blending of passions these pieces of art create! Choosing was difficult, but I think I would choose Homebirth. I am fortunate to work as a doula and I am not yet a midwife, so the most fitting and heartwarming for me is Homebirth. Thank you for these creations. I will be sharing this page on my page.

  16. Sita says:

Ooh, those are nice. That’s a tough choice. I’m a doula, had 2 home births and want to be a midwife when I “grow up”. I would probably pick the midwife one as a gift for my midwife.

  17. Sita says:

Forgot to add I “liked” Moon Over Maize on FB.

  18. Jo says:

I’m torn between “doula” and “homebirth” as I am a doula, but had a homebirth and work for a homebirth midwife :)

    These are lovely.

  19. jamie says:

These are gorgeous! I’d choose the homebirth necklace – I love the soft, quiet colors of this necklace. Very symbolic of the environment and atmosphere of a birth at home.

(And I think the strong vibrant colors of the midwife and doula necklaces represent their role as well.)

    Love them all!

  20. Leslie says:

I would choose the midwife necklace. I am currently a student and apprentice!

  21. Emily says:

I was born at home and two of my three children were amazing HBAC births. Now I am living in a town with no midwife for 80 miles and very few homebirthers, but you just never know who has had a home birth. A few weeks ago I happened to run into a lady at the library who I found out had her babies at home in this town 20 years ago. The necklace would be a great conversation piece, maybe help me find some like-minded friends, and they are beautiful!

  22. Tanya says:

Oh, my. I have had these as a favorite on etsy for some time. I would pick the one that says midwife and give it to my midwife. She is so amazing and I just heart her so much!

  23. Shannon says:

I would pick Homebirth. 3 babies at home and another on the way. Thank you for the chance at such a beatiful piece of jewelary.

  24. Robyn S. says:

I would love the homebirth one, it is the most subtle and pretty homebirth necklace I have seen, and my first son was born peacefully at home and I am about a month away from another son being born at home, Lord willing. :)

  25. Tammie says:

I would choose “Homebirth” because it is my passion. Perhaps one day I would have the privilege to wear “midwife”!

  26. Candace says:

I would choose the homebirth one. I have only birthed one baby at home, but it was a transformative experience to say the least. Simply amazing and I am damn proud of it. <3

  27. Marixa says:

I would pick homebirth because that’s my dream! I’d use it to inspire myself even more!

  28. Meredith Lovell-Thayer says:

I would choose Midwife and keep it as a reminder of what I am working towards and why. :) I will finish midwifery school in November!

  29. Liz says:

I would choose the doula one to give to our wonderful friend/doula who will be assisting at our planned homebirth in July.

  30. Sarah Davis says:

I don’t know if I would choose the home birth necklace (since I was blessed with a great home birth recently) or the doula one (since I want to be a doula someday). ;)

  31. Lucy Rayden says:

I would choose the Doula one. This would be a gift for my fabulous sister who is a wonderful doula, non-judgemental and a fabulous advocate for home birth and breastfeeding and has supported me through my own pregnancies, births and breastfeeding journeys. This would be much deserved especially as she suffered a miscarriage this month but has still gone out of her way to help her ladies :-)

  32. Sarah M says:

These necklaces are gorgeous! I would love the privilege of wearing the homebirth necklace. How precious to have my children’s birthstones close to my heart.

  33. Kristen says:

I would choose the “homebirth” one because we are planning our first homebirth and we’re so excited!! Hoping for a beautiful experience and this necklace is just beautiful!!

  34. Helga says:

I’d choose the doula necklace. I am a birth doula and love to show off my profession! <3

  35. Jenica says:

I would choose the homebirth one because I’m only 10 weeks away from my first homebirth. I switched from an OB/hospital delivery only 2 weeks ago and would love to have something like this next to my heart to remind me to stay strong!

  36. Tina says:

I would love the doula necklace… my doula has been such an amazing support person for me this pregnancy and I’d love to give her such a special gift. Thanks for the giveaway!

  37. Candy says:

I would absolutely love to be able to treat my doula to the Doula necklace when my little water baby is born at home in August!

  38. Kate says:

These are beautiful creations! I would choose the homebirth one because I had my one and only at home!!! I’ve been eyeing up this necklace on Etsy for some time now–would love to own one!!!

  39. Melanie says:

I would choose the Doula necklace. The colors are so joyful and I just love the overall design.

I’m a doula in training (CD Dona in training) largely because of the doula I had for my birth. I’ll never forget 3 in the morning, 25 degrees (C) outside, a beautiful clear night. My doula and I were waiting for my husband to bring the car around to go to the hospital and she put her arm around me and said
“This is a good day!” I must have looked at her like she had 6 heads and a tail because then she said
“This is your baby’s BIRTHDAY”. That moment has stuck with me ever since. I want to provide that to someone else.

I would be PROUD to wear the word DOULA.

  40. Cathie says:

I would choose the home birth necklace because I’m a fan of home birth, had one for my second baby, and the necklace is absolutely beautiful, (And swoopy! I love swoopy!) And I love how it would help strike up conversations with strangers about home birth.

  41. Loa1002 says:

I choose home birth because my 2nd son was a home birth. My dream came true and it was everything I wanted and more.

  42. Sarah says:

I’m so very proud of my homebirth!!! I chose that one :)

  43. Andi Crater says:

I would choose the “homebirth” necklace to keep my most recent homebirth close to my heart. I will never step foot in a hospital again after that day!

  44. kavita says:

i choose the MIDWIFE necklace, i have had the dream of being a midwife ever since my first empowering homebirth 16 years ago. after taking waldorf teacher training, working as a waldorf teacher, being a doula for 10+ years, birthing another child at home and working towards being a midwife, i am in the process of receiving my CPM, (still some more work to do) and am proud to call myself a MIDWIFE…

  45. Alina says:

I would like the Doula one. (although I love the beads on the homebirth one) After my first birth experience I discovered the benefits of natural child birth and I realized how much I will need a doula the next time around. After my experience I think I would like to be a doula once my children are all in school.

  46. Sara W. says:

I love them all! I would choose the Homebirth one because it would be a great way to bring up the topic w/women. You know they see it & say “Wow, I like your necklace. Interesting. Homebirth?” Then I would have an open invitation to spread the love for Homebirth. And of course I would also mention that I won it from BBH & send them your way :-)

  47. Kelli Paulus says:

I would love the doula necklace. I am a birth doula and my job means so much to me. Supporting families through the birth of their child is so amazing and humbling.

  48. Katie says:

I would get the doula necklace. I’m currently working on my certification, and it would be a fun treat to wear when I “graduate.” :)

  49. I would LOVE the doula necklace to give to MY doula as a gift! We’re expecting our first baby in about four weeks :)

  50. labortrials says:

Bee-YOU-tee-full necklaces. I’d choose the midwife one b/c I think my midwife deserves some bling! I’d love to give her a special gift like this.
