Birth Inspired Necklaces by Moon Over Maize

The Bring Birth Home giveaway for the month of May features three beautiful, handcrafted necklaces by Monica, owner of Moon Over Maize.

I am absolutely delighted to share these birth inspired gems with you! Choose one of the three when you win the May giveaway.

About Monica, aka Moon Over Maize

“My favorite toy is my torch.”

I have always been inspired by colors. When I was young one of my favorite past times was organizing crayons and buttons into different color categories. My work with metal and stones these days still involves a lovely array of colors. Sometimes bold and bright and other times pale and mellow, depending on my mood.

Creating jewelry comes second to raising my two children. My second baby was born at home in July nearly four years ago. I am homeschooling them and love it to no end!

How to enter the giveaway:

1) Go over and “like” Moon Over Maize on Facebook.

2) Leave a comment below telling us which necklace you would choose and why!

Giveaway winner will be announced the morning of Friday,  May 27th

Good luck!

I’d pick the midwife necklace as a gift for my lovely midwife who will be delivery my 3rd baby (and over 1,000 for her!) this fall :)

When I was is nursing school we learned about the art and science of nursing. I was always impressed by that thought…that nursing is an art and a science. It is something that requires both great mental capacity and creativity and intuition.

I would ascribe those same attributes to a doula(which I am now doing). For that reason I really like the doula one necklace. This necklace is a great reminder of that part of me that loves to follow the creative and the beautiful in birth. I could see myself using it in difficult times when the path is unknown to remind me to look to the unknown and creative within us all.

I like your page and I love the homebirth necklace…. I would wear it so people will ask me about it and I can tell them all about my homebirth with my first born. It was amazing and I loved every minute!

  4. Poppy says:

It is a tough decision. My 2nd homebirth was on May 9th. I had 2 midwives and 2 students attend. How could I possibly choose just one woman to thank with such a special gift? Perhaps it would have the most impact on the people close to me to get the homebirth necklace and wear it proudly. But I remain unconvinced.

    Beautiful pieces of art all.

  5. Elizabeth says:

I would pick the doula necklace and give it to the doula who helped me during labor with my daughter. I know I am one of hundreds of women she has labored with – but for me her very simple words of encouragement, delivered just when I needed them most, made all the difference for me. I know she is the reason I was able to stay confident and strong and make it through a wonderful birth at home. This lovely necklace would be a fitting way for me to communicate how special she was to me during that very important day.

  6. Ronni says:

I would choose the Doula necklace because… I love being a doula. And it is so pretty!

  7. Justine says:

These are fantastic! I would love to have the Midwife one since I have just begun my journey as a midwifery student/apprentice and would like to keep the reminder of my goals close to my heart when things get challenging <3

Oh! And I LIKE Moon Over Maize on Facebook!

  8. Heather says:

What beautiful pieces! I would probably choose the homebirth necklace as an outward expression of my dedication to be an advocate for women everywhere. We have a choice. We have a right to be informed. We have a right to birth our babies as God and nature intended. My homebirth was an incredibly healing experience. One that I will never forget after an unnecessary cesarean. I will always treasure that experience.

  9. Molly Scanlon says:

I would pick the midwife necklace to give to my lovely midwife.

  10. Lyn says:

I would choose the midwife necklace because I am a student midwife. :)

  11. Amanda H says:

I would love the Home Birth one, as I am looking forward to our 7th baby, and 4th home birth.

  12. melinda says:

i love all 3 necklaces but could wear the *homebirth* necklace with pride. after 2 babes born at home i relish the opportunity to educate others on this wonderful option. i can only imagine how many people will comment on this beautiful necklace, and bam, i can hit them with my spiel.:)

  13. Anna says:

I would choose the doula necklace because I am a doula. I hope to one day be one the path to midwifery but I am so enjoying my time being a doula because 100% of my attention can be on helping the woman be comfortable in her labor and reassuring those around her. They are all beautiful!

  14. Christie says:

I would have a hard time choosing between the Homebirth and Doula pieces… Being a doula is my passion and gives me joy, but since the birth of my second daughter (at home), homebirth has been dear to my heart as well. It’s a toss-up!

  15. Jen says:

This is a fantastic giveaway! What beautiful jewelry! I would love to have the homebirth necklace. I had a homebirth with my 2nd child back in September. There are no words to describe the experience that I had. It was beautiful and peaceful and absolutely healing after a very bad experience in the hospital with my first born in 2004. I’d love to wear the necklace as a reminder of the beauty of birth.

  16. Jaymie says:

I would choose the homebirth necklace…. and I would keep it within my sight during my planned homebirth of my first child in September! It would serve as a visual reminder of the amazingness of what I am going to accomplish. :-D

  17. Erica Lea says:

Oh, I’d love one of these necklaces! You just find the most amazing jewelry designers!

I think the Home Birth necklace would be amazing because I’ve had one : ) And am also a Doula and aspiring Midwife, so I am definitely an advocate for Home Birth!!! <3

Thank you for bringing the amazing talents of these fabulous artists to us!!

  18. KAS says:

I would choose the doula necklace, absolutely (and these are beautiful by the way)! I had a bad experience with the doula I used and thought was perfect during the birth of our second child, and thanks to that I resolved to become a doula myself. I am currently working on becoming an RN so I can serve my clients to the best of my ability, knowing what to say and when to say it to help them achieve the birth they want and deserve. I would love a reminder on me always as to my goal and why I am doing it.

  19. melody says:

i would like to say the doula or midwife ones to give to my incredible midwife & doula, but i am going to be selfish and say definitely the “homebirth” one for myself. to remind me in the hard times in life that i did a homebirth…therefore i can do anything :)

  20. LOVE LOVE LOVE the homebirth pendant!! My boyfriend and I are in the process of planning a Spring baby next year, and I am, without a doubt, going to have a homebirth!!! This pendant would, without a doubt, be the most awesome thing to wear while giving birth (I plan on having many pictures taken!). Not only that, I would wear it all the time and I would LOVE to let people know that I am an advocate for homebirthing. I’m sure it would pique someone’s curiosity, giving me the chance to share with them my knowledge about homebirthing. All I wear is sterling silver jewelry, plus I work in a jewelry store. This piece is absolutely *~AMAZING~*, one of a kind. LOVE it! <3 :)

  21. Sarah says:

I “like” Moon Over Maize on FB. I would love to win the “Midwife” necklace for a gift for my midwife at our next homebirth. She has been my midwife for 7.5 years through 5 pregnancies (3 home waterbirths, 1 loss, and this upcoming planned homebirth). What a beautiful gift this would be. I am going to be her first client with whom she has had four homebirths!

  22. Cindy says:

I would choose the homebirth necklace. I love to share with others about the homebirth of my firstborn. These necklaces are beautiful.

  23. Jordan says:

I would choose the Doula necklace. I’m about to doula for the first time for the birth of my best friend’s daughter, and I would love to be able to share the importance of the doula and natural birth with people.

  24. Valerie says:

I would love to have either the homebirth one or the midwife one!

  25. Danielle says:

I would pick the Doula necklace. I have had the same amazing doula for 3 out of 4 of my births. Now that I am pregnant with #5 she will also be attending this birth. She has been such a rock and a gift to me, I would love to be able to give you a gift in return.

  26. Holly says:

I would pick the doula necklace because I’m a doula. :)

  27. Camille says:

I would choose the homebirth necklace. While I’m “only” at the trying to conceive stage, it would serve as a constant reminder of what I always want in life for my family: connected experiences bringing forth the best in each of us through the good times and the bad.

  28. Dora says:

I love the homebirth necklace. After four wonderful homebirths, I’d love to wear it to spark conversation about how great and safe homebirth really is. I like the midwife necklace but I had three awesome midwives and a friend midwife so I wouldn’t know which one to give it to :( . So I would choose the homebirth.

  29. amanda says:

I’d choose the homebirth one. While I haven’t had a homebirth, I wish I had chosen that the first time around.

  30. Joy Schwartz says:

While I would love the home birth necklace for myself I would actually like the Doula necklace for my dear friend & Doula!

  32. Amanda says:

Doula- because I love my new title. People would see it around my neck and ask what’s a Doula? And I can share how I empower women in there choices.

  33. Chelsea says:

These are all so beautiful! I might pick the midwife necklace as a gift of thanks to the amazing woman who has supported me through this journey… Or I might just pick the homebirth necklace so that I can spread the word and tell my story every time someone asks me about it!

My due date is TODAY, btw!! I couldn’t be more excited!!

  34. Heidi says:

It brings me such joy to see a mama have her baby gently, naturally, and with love, in a hospital setting. It makes for such a good example for so many doctors and nurses who’ve rarely seen the dedication and desire in their “patients.”

I am honored to be by their side as their doula. For that reson, I’d love the doula necklace :)

  35. Megan says:

I liked Moon Over Maize on Facebook & I would choose the Home Birth necklace in honor of my home birth after C-section earlier this year. It would also be a great conversation piece to educate other women about home birth.

  36. Although I am a doula, I think I would rather have the homebirth one. If it wasn’t for my HBAC, I would have never began my journey into the birthworld of helping other women to have empowering birth experiences. :)

  37. Kristen says:

I had planned a waterbirth for my son who was born last July. I ended up having to be induced at almost 43 weeks as he wasn’t dropping at all and my midwife didn’t want us to end up needing a c-section. However, I would choose the homebirth necklace as it would be my conintued encouragement that with our next child I WILL get my homebirth!

  38. KAYLA says:

I would choose the homebirth one because out of my four babies 2 were born at home and I would have had all of them there had my hubby needed a hospital birth with my first and my only girl (so far) passed away to anencephaly, but we had her in the hospital after having prepared for a home birth and finding out her condition we had no choice…But by far my two home water births have been, I would say the 2 closest time I have been with my heavenly Father!

  39. Mary Karl-Gruswitz says:

I could easily pick any of those necklaces, but I think I would go for the doula necklace….because I love being a doula and think every woman should have one! I think that the necklace is beautiful and would be a good way to get conversations going about what a doula is / does…..too many still don’t even know what a doula is.
