Perks of a Work at Home Dad (and Mom).

4 Comments 13 May 2010

My fiance works from home.

It’s a great deal and we both love it. He’s home for meals and, for the most part, chooses when he works.

Last week, my fiance Eric and I decided to try out a new daily schedule.

It included a 2 hour window in the morning when I would get some quiet work time, and Eric would take Ella out. After breakfast and before her nap.

So far, it’s been working out well. Really well.

They’ve mostly traveled downtown to the library, coming home with black and white shapes books and short videos shot on our Flip camera. Ella comes home worn out but still smiling.

As I hoped, the schedule is working out very well for me. I’ve been getting a lot more work done for Bring Birth Home, including gearing up for Saturday’s webinar event, and much more that I am unable to disclose at this time…<wink, wink>

But what I didn’t expect from this arrangement – the subtle but significant bonding I’ve seen taking place between Eric and Ella.

As a stay at home mom, Ella has gotten more than her fair share of “mama time.” And even though Eric works from home and is able to see Ella quite a bit, this one on one time for the two of them is different. It’s special.

I’ve noticed Ella going to him more often. She talks to him, even leans in for a kiss (previously reserved for mama only)!

That is all. I just wanted to share. It melts my heart.

This is wonderful. As a stay-at-home mama, I know how it goes with the bonding. Recently my husband interviewed for a new work-from-home job, and I completely got my hopes up. (He commutes to GR every day!) But sadly he didn’t get it. :( I’ll just keep waiting… :) And I’m so happy for the three of you!
