More Business of Being Born, from Executive Producer Ricki Lake and Filmmaker Abby Epstein, will be released on November 8th, 2011.

This four disc set follows their landmark
documentary, The Business of Being Born, continuing their provocative and entertaining exploration of the modern maternity care system.

More Business of Being Born offers a practical look at birthing options as well as poignant celebrity birth stories from stars including Alanis Morissette, Gisele Bundchen, Christy Turlington-Burns, Cindy Crawford, Molly Ringwald, Laila Ali, Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Melissa Joan Hart.

About More Business of Being Born

DVD #1  Down on The Farm: Conversations with Legendary Midwife Ina May Gaskin

Follow Executive Producer Ricki Lake and Director Abby Epstein to The Farm Community in Summertown, Tennessee, where pioneer midwife Ina May Gaskin talks candidly about the latest birth trends and the art of midwifery. Gaskin, who was featured in the original The Business of Being Born, sparked Lake’s initial interest in natural birth and has continued to inspire the filmmaking duo’s advocacy efforts. Also on the journey is pregnant actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley, who has enlisted a midwife to attend the birth of her second child and joins the filmmakers in meeting The Farm’s famous midwives and touring the picturesque birth cabins in the woods. In the poignant final sequence, Gaskin exhibits her Safe Motherhood Quilt and calls for a deeper examination into the rising maternal mortality rate in the US.

DVD #2 Special Deliveries: Celebrity Mothers Talk Straight on Birth

Featuring celebrity moms Laila Ali, Gisele Bundchen, Cindy Crawford, Alyson Hannigan, Melissa Joan Hart, Kellie Martin, Alanis Morissette, Christy Turlington-Burns and Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Special Deliveries is a collection of intimate birth stories from a diverse group of mothers. Whether they chose to deliver at a hospital, home or birthing center, these heartfelt and humorous testimonies speak to the lasting power of the birth experience. True inspiration for any mother-to-be, this group of women trusted their bodies and intuitions, taking responsibility for their birth decisions even when things didn’t go according to plan. None of these courageous women has ever spoken on the record in such compelling detail, and, on this DVD, the filmmakers weave together their passionate narratives as a celebration of the journey to motherhood that will leave viewers with a renewed sense of amazement about the power of women.

DVD # 3 Explore Your Options: Doulas, Birth Centers & C-Sections

The most comprehensive and educational DVD in the series, Explore Your Options offers birth-planning guidance around key topics such as the role of doulas (labor support specialists,) the advantages of birth centers and the alarming escalation of cesarean sections in the United States and Brazil. Epstein and Lake talk to doulas about why their profession is currently booming and uncover why having a good doula can make-or-break the entire birth experience. They look at the ever-growing rates of inductions and c-sections, which have reached 50% in many US hospitals and more than 99% in some private hospitals in Brazil. How “safe” are these cesarean surgeries, and what are the health implications for the mothers and babies? Explore Your Options examines the pros and cons of birth centers, described as a perfect middle ground between home and hospital. Special features include Alanis Morissette and Alyson Hannigan on the advantages of doulas, Christy Turlington Burns on her unexpected complications at a birth center, Molly Ringwald on how she avoided a cesarean birth with her twins and Gisele Bundchen and Michelle Alves on the cesarean epidemic in their native Brazil.
(Running Time: 102 min)

DVD #4 The VBAC Dilemma: What Your Options Really Are

The VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) has become a hot-button issue in the modern maternity care system, as one in three new mothers will give birth via cesarean section. Are all of these mothers then forced to undergo a repeat cesarean the next time around? Epstein and Lake posed that question to dozens of experts, determining the surprising truth about VBACs. They also follow several women’s stories – both those who succeed and fail at attempting a VBAC – including that of filmmaker Abby Epstein, whose first c-section delivery was depicted in the dramatic, final moments of The Business of Being Born.

  3. Nicole Harris says:

I would be honored to win a copy! I would love to share it w/ the MANY women around me that are pregnant or planning to get pregnant. I would also love to share it w/ my boss ( I nanny her children) she is a Dr. in the NIC unit at a hospital, and hopefully she would share it w/ her co-workers….so on and so forth! Srreading the word! :)

I’d love to add this to my lending library!!

  6. Joli says:

I would love to win this because my husband and I having been trying to get pregnant and are limited to alternative prenatal and postnatal care living in Iowa -which doesn’t not support or allow licensed midwives in the home! I love learning about all the options I never knew I had in h king a child and birthing my child my way. I loved the original bobb and have contributed to bobb to get this info out there to other parents to be like me who don’t know what options they have.

  7. Courtenay says:

My daughter and I watched movies about birth to prepare her for the home birth of her sister she was 27 months old. We are now preparing for the birth of her brother, we would love to add More Business of Being Born to our collection.

  8. Ashley says:

I am a birth doula and childbirth educator currently working on a program for teen mothers. As a former teen parent, I understand the impact that knowledge (or lack thereof) can have on the special circumstances that arise for young parents, and I’d love to use BOBB to educate them on their options.

The disc of celebrities talking about birth may be especially beneficial to my teens, who are so influenced by the media and have often never heard positive birth stories. BOBB would be a wonderful resource to get the young mothers I work with to think about their birth experience in ways they hadn’t considered before, thus empowering them to make more informed choices. I believe in protecting the birth memories of all mothers, and that starts with education and emotional well-being; a copy of BOBB would be a great addition to our library.

  9. I would love, love, love to win this! You don’t even know how much. I will be buying it anyway…but to win it would make it so much better!

  10. Mother Nurture and Wildbirth World Wide are helping to turn around the current trend of birth becoming more and more medicalized. These videos would be used a lot.

  11. Katie R says:

I would love to win a copy to donate to our local Friends of Missouri Midwives Chapter!

  12. I have a childbirth library and I would love to have this series to share with women; it is part of a vibrant movement to change birth in our culture.

  13. Renee Hennings says:

I am a birth doula and also due with my second child in late December. I am planning a home birth and would love to see more inspiration from women who have experienced birth in the way they want. I would love to add this to my library so I can share with future moms I will work with.

  14. Jessica Fox says:

The original BOBB film had a huge impact in my pregnancy and now that I work in the birth and breastfeeding community this would be a great information tool to share.

  15. Amy says:

I love BOBB and Bring Birth Home (and like both on Facebook)! I am planning my third natural home birth in 24 days (give or take a couple weeks). I want to win this, in order to watch it myself and share it with others! I believe all women have the right to an informed, empowered, supported birth and a positive birth experience and transition into motherhood, no matter what choices they makes. I would love to share this through my local home birth network and family enrichment center!

  16. Cecelia says:

I am 38.2 weeks along and planning our first homebirth of 5. The business of being born will be a great assett to our knowledge and awareness. I am also training to be a midwife. I can’t wait for this incredible journey of labor and delivery at home to kick off.

  17. Sheila says:

I would love to win a copy of More Business of Being Born! As a doula, and childbirth junkie for many years, I have found the original documentary to be such an encouragement and a spurring forward force in my life. It would be such a blessing to have a copy of the new film to see and share the important message with childbearing women I know. Thank you!

  18. Elizabeth says:

I am an apprentice midwife and would love to have this to share with my clients and friends and anyone I can. It’s important women all over know what birthing is really all about in the US.

  19. Annabelle WALL says:

My 11th baby is 5 months and I never stop learning, the new video would be a great addition.

  20. Kara Tosto says:

I would love to receive a copy MBoBB! I am doing my doula training THIS weekend! I had both my babies at home and I am so passionate about birth, just hearing the word birth gets me so high! I would love to do a showing at my home and have this to help build my lending library!!!! I can’t wait to watch this! I just love Ricki and am grateful for all that she has done for the birth world!

  21. Anna M. says:

I “liked” BOBB on Facebook and I would LOVE a copy of More BOBB because the first video really helped empower me and I know that this set would do so even more. After having a traumatic c-section after a very long “drug-free” labor and pushing, I didn’t want to go through all that again and decided for a scheduled c-section. Well, this video helped me to see that birth can be amazing and peaceful and I am now planning my first home birth in January! I also love sharing BOBB with friends and family to make them more educated about birth.

  22. Tania C. says:

I love BOBB because real, natural birth needs to be shown more often. I am a CBE and this would be a great addition to my collection for my clients.

  23. Casey Bryant says:

I want to win a copy of More business of Being Born because the first movie has inspired me to have a home birth and I really want to see section on VBACS becuase that’s what we are planing is a HBAC and Due in Dec.

  24. Chelsie says:

Please enter me in the giveaway! I have been a fan of the BOBB FB page for quite some time. And, I’ll add, that seeing the documentary when my son was 4 months.. and suffering from PPD following a traumatic hospital birth is what really made things click for me. I’m now a passionate advocate for natural birth and expecting our second baby any day now. She will be coming at home. :)

  25. I loved the first one and hope to get a chance to see this one as well. i am still trying to convince my hubby that my next kid needs born at home and not at the hospital. :)

  26. Renee says:

I am a labour doula, postpartum doula and childbirth educator and would LOVE to be able to share this DVD with all the parents I meet. Birth should be empowering!

  27. Amanda Plouzek says:

I like their page on facebook. I would like to win a copy because it would be very useful in my doula library for clients.

  28. sabrina says:

I liked the facebook page and would love to win a copy of MBOBB because I, along with other childbirth professionals in my community are raising awareness for women’s options for childbirth, home birth, and trying to improve maternity care outcomes in our community through support and education.

  29. Jennifer Mercieca says:

I liked their page – I’d LOVE it if I could! :) I would love love love to win a copy – BOBB is one of the reasons I birthed both my babies at home! :)

  30. Nikki H. says:

    Liked on Facebook.

Why should I get this? I am a doula in training. I am a mother who had an emergency cesarean who still doesn’t know to this day if it was necessary. I am a mama who has VBAC’d.

I am an educator, and a woman who believes in broadcasting the message that birth is normal. This would be another tool to aid me in that.

That is why I need a copy of this :D

  31. Annette says:

I am a mother of 3 children with my last being a home birth and I share my current copy of The business of being born to all my pregnant friends and any other information I have to help encourge mothers to explore all their options and make informed decisions in the way they childbirth.

I would love to be able to include your new DVD in my collection to help assist other mothers-to-be

  32. Jordan says:

I would love to win a copy of MBOBB because I would like to have it as a resource for friends and students who are considering a natural birth. It is a great way of showing how empowering, and NON scary birth can be!

  33. I would love to win a copy of More Business of Being Born because since having my son at home in March of 2011, many of my now-pregnant friends have come to me for advice on “non-conventional” birthing options. I always recommend The Business of Being Born as one of the best initial resources and as an especially useful tool in helping your partner to understand why you might desire something “non-conventional”. I would love to have a copy of More Business of Being Born to lend out to people seeking more information! :)

  34. Jennifer says:

I liked the page and would love to win this video. I can’t wait to see it, whether I have to buy it or not! I am hoping to have a hbac this time around and have found a midwife who supports that.

  35. Eden Chuislekuda says:

This movie unequivocally convinced my husband and I to plan a homebirth. It went well and our healthy child was safely born at home. If we are blessed enough to have another one we would plan to do the same. This was a great movie to refer people to who questioned our judgment, or for recommending to our more crunchy friends who were wading through birth options. It would be nice to be able to lend this to family and friends in the future and have our extended family be more understanding and supportive of our birthing decisions and not think that we were just being irresponsible and narcissistic and “cheap.”

  36. Melinda says:

I liked the page long ago ;) But I would love to own a copy of this to further educate myself and be able to spread this information to others in the community (both local and online). Plus it would be great to see and own them since I will be recommending people watch them! :) I already got to see The VBAC Dilemma at a local screening and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see the rest! I am currently TTC and will be having a homebirth this time around, so it would also be wonderful to have more positive birth media to watch!

  37. Laura McPheeters says:

I can’t believe I almost missed this giveaway! SO glad I saw it in time :) I originally saw The Business of Being Born several months before I found out I was pregnant. Within the first 20 minutes of the film, I knew IMMEDIATELY that home birth was for me- however far off into my future it may have been (which, as it turns out, wasn’t very far!) EVERY time I witnessed a woman have a natural, peaceful birth in her home, it brought me to tears (and it still does). It was just so beautiful and empowering.
Flash forward almost two years, and I am now the mother of a beautiful baby girl (almost born at home, but I ended up having to transfer to the hospital) and working on my certification as a birthing and post-partum doula. I would LOVE to win More Business of Being Born so I can increase my personal knowledge of home birth and so I can share it with others and hopefully inspire them to consider out-of-hospital birthing options as well!
Thank you for this opportunity :)

  38. Kristi says:

When I discovered I was pregnant for the second time, I was so excited… Until I started going to my prenatal appointments. After deciding that my Ob did not care about my concerns, I changed to a midwife. During that transition, I started feeling that I did not want the same hospital experience I had with my last. After doing some research, I say my husband down and watched the first BOBB. After some discussion and some soul searching, he suggested that we have the baby at home in our hot tub, turned down of course. Since then, I have spoken to several other women and while the think I’m somewhat off my rocker, they cannot fault my logic for being at home. I am considering doula training after the baby is born and I am becoming an advocate for home birth along with trying to get midwives licensed in my state. I can only hope that the next BOBB will only strengthen my resolve and spread the word. I plan on showing it to all my mommy friends.

  39. Shannon says:

I would LOVE to win and pass along to families in my area to spread the wisdom from the mothers and midwives being featured. Thanks!

  40. Jenny Gold says:

I hope to win a copy. I am a placenta encapsulation lady, a HUGE birth and breastfeeding nerd, and I will share it with all of my colleagues, clients, and friends.

  41. Diana says:

I *LOVED* TBOBB, I plan to give copies to my friends and family when I get preggo, and with any luck, I’ll have MBOBB to hand out too!

  42. Adam craig says:

My wife absolutely loves The Business of Being Born. We had planned a home birth, but ended up having a mandatory induction at almost 43 weeks with our son. We still plan for a homebirth with the next one.. and would love More Business of Being Born as more preparation for that.

  43. Mary says:

I loved the first BOBB! I’m looking forward to seeing the new series and especially to there FINALLY being a movie out there that is all about VBAC! I am an ICAN chapter leader and we search high and low for VBAC movies to show moms who want a VBAC. It will be nice to not have to send people to youtube for some great research on the safety of VBAC and some normal natural births after cesareans.

  44. Karen says:

This movie was inspiring to me, and convinced me to pursue a natural home birth for my second child, which was a decision I will always be thankful for.

  45. natosha says:

I have liked their page. I would love to win a copy to not only educate myself on homebirths but to also lend it out to the birthing community that i belong to.

  46. Jessica Lessard says:

I’d LOVE to add it to my library of birth related materials for my clients to borrow (but, alas, i’m a poor student midwife without the means to purchase it myself). What a great influence BOBB has been on all of us (and the blessing just keeps continuing with More BOBB!!!)! How exciting!

  47. Hi! As a doula I’d be thrilled to win a copy of this film to show my friends, clients, and sister doulas. Really looking forward to the film’s release!

  48. Joyce says:

    can’t wait to see it…

  49. melissa says:

I teach prenatal classes and would love to show this dvd. Birth needs to be normalized again, and given back to the woman and family!

  50. Karen says:

Thanks for this whole series – it’s been a wonderful tribute. I would love a copy to share with as many friends as humanly possible.
