More Business of Being Born, from Executive Producer Ricki Lake and Filmmaker Abby Epstein, will be released on November 8th, 2011.

This four disc set follows their landmark
documentary, The Business of Being Born, continuing their provocative and entertaining exploration of the modern maternity care system.

More Business of Being Born offers a practical look at birthing options as well as poignant celebrity birth stories from stars including Alanis Morissette, Gisele Bundchen, Christy Turlington-Burns, Cindy Crawford, Molly Ringwald, Laila Ali, Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Melissa Joan Hart.

About More Business of Being Born

DVD #1  Down on The Farm: Conversations with Legendary Midwife Ina May Gaskin

Follow Executive Producer Ricki Lake and Director Abby Epstein to The Farm Community in Summertown, Tennessee, where pioneer midwife Ina May Gaskin talks candidly about the latest birth trends and the art of midwifery. Gaskin, who was featured in the original The Business of Being Born, sparked Lake’s initial interest in natural birth and has continued to inspire the filmmaking duo’s advocacy efforts. Also on the journey is pregnant actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley, who has enlisted a midwife to attend the birth of her second child and joins the filmmakers in meeting The Farm’s famous midwives and touring the picturesque birth cabins in the woods. In the poignant final sequence, Gaskin exhibits her Safe Motherhood Quilt and calls for a deeper examination into the rising maternal mortality rate in the US.

DVD #2 Special Deliveries: Celebrity Mothers Talk Straight on Birth

Featuring celebrity moms Laila Ali, Gisele Bundchen, Cindy Crawford, Alyson Hannigan, Melissa Joan Hart, Kellie Martin, Alanis Morissette, Christy Turlington-Burns and Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Special Deliveries is a collection of intimate birth stories from a diverse group of mothers. Whether they chose to deliver at a hospital, home or birthing center, these heartfelt and humorous testimonies speak to the lasting power of the birth experience. True inspiration for any mother-to-be, this group of women trusted their bodies and intuitions, taking responsibility for their birth decisions even when things didn’t go according to plan. None of these courageous women has ever spoken on the record in such compelling detail, and, on this DVD, the filmmakers weave together their passionate narratives as a celebration of the journey to motherhood that will leave viewers with a renewed sense of amazement about the power of women.

DVD # 3 Explore Your Options: Doulas, Birth Centers & C-Sections

The most comprehensive and educational DVD in the series, Explore Your Options offers birth-planning guidance around key topics such as the role of doulas (labor support specialists,) the advantages of birth centers and the alarming escalation of cesarean sections in the United States and Brazil. Epstein and Lake talk to doulas about why their profession is currently booming and uncover why having a good doula can make-or-break the entire birth experience. They look at the ever-growing rates of inductions and c-sections, which have reached 50% in many US hospitals and more than 99% in some private hospitals in Brazil. How “safe” are these cesarean surgeries, and what are the health implications for the mothers and babies? Explore Your Options examines the pros and cons of birth centers, described as a perfect middle ground between home and hospital. Special features include Alanis Morissette and Alyson Hannigan on the advantages of doulas, Christy Turlington Burns on her unexpected complications at a birth center, Molly Ringwald on how she avoided a cesarean birth with her twins and Gisele Bundchen and Michelle Alves on the cesarean epidemic in their native Brazil.
(Running Time: 102 min)

DVD #4 The VBAC Dilemma: What Your Options Really Are

The VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) has become a hot-button issue in the modern maternity care system, as one in three new mothers will give birth via cesarean section. Are all of these mothers then forced to undergo a repeat cesarean the next time around? Epstein and Lake posed that question to dozens of experts, determining the surprising truth about VBACs. They also follow several women’s stories – both those who succeed and fail at attempting a VBAC – including that of filmmaker Abby Epstein, whose first c-section delivery was depicted in the dramatic, final moments of The Business of Being Born.

  1. I am a birth and postpartum doula for 13 years because of how my 4 births impacted my life. They made me who I am today. Protecting the sanctity of birth for a woman is imperative.

  2. Katie Hines says:

I would love to win a copy of this to share with my community organization Omaha Area Natural Parents! I have almost 600 fans and I know a great many of people could benefit from seeing this video series. Your first film really impacted me while I was pregnant with my first and encouraged me to make more natural choices which lead me to start my org. Thank you for doing this contest!

  3. Shanta says:

I would love to add this to my doula lending library. Also I am pregnant with baby #2 and would love to watch and enjoy it for myself :)

  4. Jo Muise says:

I would love to win a copy of this as I run a non-profit community based doula program in Montréal, Québec and we are always scratching out a budget for books and DVDs. We serve women in need from diverse backgrounds: new refugee women (many who have lost babies in their country of origin), women changing their lives for the better to help their children have better, women who have had tough birth experiences wanting a better experience the next time around and everyone in between.

Pick us and we’ll put it to great use.

    Good work!

  5. Kati B says:

I would love to win this :) to watchand then share with others.

  6. Natalie says:

I am an L&D nurse and would like to see this perspective of labor and delivery.

  7. Trellia Loveless says:

I wanted so badly to have a home birth but complications in my first pregnancy put an end to that dream. I ended up with a bad epidural and forceps delivery. With my second I thought for sure that this would be it, unfortunately we moved somewhere that doesn’t allow midwives at all. I ended up being induced which ultimately turned into what I feel was an un-necessary c-section. Having seen the first movie after my second child was born has made me even more determined not to let what happened to me happen to other women. So much so in fact that I’m returning to school to get my nursing degree followed by a degree in midwifery. I would love to have this video to show other women the power they have within themselves to birth the way they want to.

  8. Linda Huddleston says:

I would live to be the lucky winner! I took my teen daughter to the movie theater viewing of BOBB. Im passionate about educating our younger generation about real birth- not tv drama- our bodies in birth, birthing women and doula support, home birth, midwives and their model of care and breastfeeding. I played Beth in Birth, The Play- by Karen Brody to raise funds for local midwives and for community education – especially my daughters friends male and female who will one day be transformed by thier own birth journey.
All of these lovely posts are worthy and there are no losers- every one wins this contest!

  9. Jessica Mothershed says:

I would LOVE to win a copy of MBOBB I have had two wonderful home births and I am always looking for more info to learn from and share :)

  10. says:

I’m a doula and would love to have a copy to offer my clients and friends a look!

  11. Maya Bialy says:

I liked your page! Ok, why should I win this prize?? Well, first of all im new to the doula/midwifery field and making lots of contacts who i’d wish to share this DVD with. I’m always looking for more resources to learn from, I have 2 of Ina May’s books already en route, and I can’t get enough of her!!

This is a super exciting time in my life. I’m in the midst of finishing up my doula training, already have my first client and am in the midst of applying to school to become a midwife! I’m hungry for knowledge and am so passionate about this field. All I want to do is learn more and this i’m sure would do just that!!

  12. I work as office administrator at a midwifery clinic and I would love to be able to add this to either the clinic resource library or my personal library as I am also beginning to train as a childbirth educator.

  13. LJB says:

I was almost certain I wanted a home birth with my first pregnancy. BOBB helped me decide for sure and also not only gave me confidence in my decision but also helped me persuade my husband. I would love to own MBOBB!

  14. Liked the page and would love to win a copy of More Business of Being Born. I think it would be great to add the documentaries to my lending library and I love watching birth movies, especially the inspiring ones.

  15. Monica YB says:

AM I too late? Ack! I hope not! :D
I would LOVE to win a copy of MBOBB! Not only do I LOVE the documentaries so far, but as a doula in training, I think they would be a wonderful tool to have in my arsenal, so be able to lend to clients and potential clients. THanks for such a wonderful giveaway!
